This Christmas, my boys were gifted a metal detector, and their excitement to become "treasure hunters" was infectious! Every beep brought anticipation, and even when they uncovered nothing more than "junk metal", their joy was undiminished.
Watching them reminded me of an important life lesson: while the process can be tedious and the treasures not always what we expect, focusing on the joys along the way makes the journey worthwhile. As they dug through bits of metal, I couldn't help but reflect on my own "junk" moments - failures, setbacks, and disappointments.
A lunch date with a dear friend recently brought these thoughts to the forefront. She asked me, “Do you know what’s important to you? Do you know what you want in life?” Her questions made me think back to the past decade.
Eleven years ago, my life felt shattered. My beloved husband passed away suddenly, and my dream of building a family and business with him disappeared overnight. I was left to raise two toddlers on my own and keep the tea business afloat, all while struggling financially and without a stable income.
I didn’t know how I could move forward, but I knew what I wanted: To return to my teaching profession and secure a stable income, to continue running our tea business, to have a home I could call my own, and to find my way back to a stable, loving relationship.
Fast forward six years, and I've managed to achieve all of that. My friend told me I seem so strong and "put together." But we both knew what isn’t visible are the countless tears, struggles, and setbacks behind the scenes.
If you’d asked me a decade ago whether I could overcome all of this, I would’ve said no. But I did it - by taking one small step at a time, focusing on what I could control, and picking myself up after every stumble.
As I now set new goals for the coming year, I’ll admit that the sense of overwhelm is creeping back. My dreams feel as insurmountable as they did back then. But I’ve learned from experience: Be clear about my intentions, take consistent steps forward and accept that setbacks will happen - and rise again each time.
To help center myself and support my wellbeing today, I’ve chosen a cup of Ayurveda Women's Wellness Tea. Its calming properties ground me and remind me to nurture myself along the way.
What hopes and dreams do you hold dear, and what are you doing to bring them to life? Let’s embrace the journey together as we welcome 2025!
